Stumbling upon a field of wild growing St. John’s wort is like discovering a ray of Earth-bound sunshine.

This small shrub with tiny yellow blooms invokes a child-like fascination within me. When the fresh flowers are squeezed they produce a bright red medicine that drips between your fingertips. The juice feels like the blood of the plant, its life force.

St. John's Wort being strongly associated with the sun, brings light to dark situations, relieves seasonal affective disorder and resolves depression especially as it relates to frustrations.

This beautiful herb brings light to many issues of the nervous system and is used by herbalists and wildcrafters to ease anxiety, tension, neuralgias (nerve pain), seasonal affective disorder, and mild to moderate depression. Beyond emotional support, St. John’s wort is also used to help relieve physical tension, nerve pain in the lower back, legs and teeth.

St. John’s wort is one of the most effective antiviral plants focusing on the nerves and therefore particularly helpful when there is a “virus in the nerves".

As an antispasmodic, St. John’s wort helps to relax muscles spasms including spasms in the lungs, colon, and reproductive tract. This helps to soothe the pain of digestive spasms and menstrual cramps as well as to ease spasmodic coughing. Also, St. John’s wort is wonderful to turn to when muscles are sore from over-exertion easing shoulder, neck, and back pain

St. John's wort has also shown promise in treating the following conditions, a few of which are related to depression.
